db3a6e8e84 scons: Use Kconfig to configure gem5.
These are not yet consumed by anything, but convert all the settings
from SCons variables to Kconfig variables.

If you have existing SConsopts files which need to be converted, you
should take a look at KCONFIG.md to learn about how kconfig is used in
gem5. You should decide if any variables need to be available to C++ or
kconfig itself, and whether those are options which should be detected
automatically, or should be up to the user. Options which should be
measured automatically should still be in SConsopts files, while user
facing options should be added to new or existing Kconfig files.

Generally, make sure you're storing c++/kconfig visible options in
env['CONF'][...]. Also remove references to sticky_vars since persistent
options should now be handled with kconfig, and export_vars since
everything in env['CONF'] is now exported automatically.

Switch SCons/gem5 to use Kconfig for configuration, except EXTRAS which
is still a sticky SCons variable. This is necessary because EXTRAS also
controls what config options exist. If it came from Kconfig itself, then
there would be a circular dependency. This dependency could
theoretically be handled by reparsing the Kconfig when EXTRAS
directories were added or removed, but that would be complicated, and
isn't supported by kconfiglib. It wouldn't be worth the significant
effort it would take to add it, just to use Kconfig more purely.

5c43523d53 arch-arm: Add matrix register support for SME
We add support for the matrix registers to the Arm architecture. This
will be used to implement support for Arm's Scalable Matrix Extension
(SME) in subsequent commits.

We add an implementation of a matrix register for the Arm
architecture. These are akin to 2D vector registers in the sense that
they can be dynamically viewed as a variety of element sizes. As
widening the element size would reduce the matrix size by a factor of
element size, we instead layer multiple tiles of wider elements onto
the underlying matrix storage in order to retain square matrices.

We separate the storage of the matrix from the different views one can
have. The potential views are:

* Tiles: View the matrix as one or more tiles using a specified
element size. As the element size increases the number of indexable
tiles increases. When using the smallest granularity element size
(bytes) there is a single tile. As an example, using 32-bit elements
yields 4 tiles. Tiles are interleaved onto the underlaying matrix
modulo element size. A tile supports 2D indexing ([][]), with the
first index specifying the row index, and the second the column
  (element index within the row).

* A Horizontal/Vertical slice (row or a column) of a tile: Take the
aforementioned tile, and extract a specified row or column slice
from it. A slice supports standard []-based indexing. A tile slice
must use the same underlying element type as is used for the tile.

* A Horizontal/Vertical slice (row or column) of the underlying matrix
storage: Treat the matrix register as an array of vectors (rows or
columns, rows preferred due to them being indepependent of the
  element size being used).

On simulator start-up the matrix registers are initialised to a
maximum size. At run-time the used size can by dynamically
adjusted. However, please note that as the matrix register class
doesn't know if a smaller size is being used, the class itself doesn't
do any bounds checking itself. This is left to the user.

190c47270e arch, cpu: Centralize the single arch CPU Simobject files.
The way these were set up, there would be a conflict between SimObject
files with the same name set up for different ISAs.

This change creates a single file which tries to determine how many ISAs
are enabled, and if there is exactly one, it creates a backwards
compatible alias for the ISA specific CPU types.

073c32be2c misc: Replace TARGET_ISA with USE_${ISA} variables.
The TARGET_ISA variable would let you select one ISA from a list of
possible ISAs. That has now been replaced with USE_ARM_ISA, USE_X86_ISA,
etc, variables which are boolean on or off. That will allow any number
of ISAs to be enabled or disabled individually. Enabling something other
than exactly one of these will probably prevent you from getting a
working gem5 binary, but those problems are being addressed in other,
parallel change series.

I decided to use the USE_ prefix since it was consistent with most other
on/off variables we have in gem5. One noteable exception is the
BUILD_GPU setting which, you could convincingly argue, is a better
prefix than USE_. Another option would be to use CONFIG_, in
anticipation of using a kconfig style config mechanism in gem5.

It seemed premature to start using a CONFIG_ prefix here, and if we
decide to switch to some other prefix like BUILD_, it should be a
purposeful choice and not something somebody just starts using.

ed6c57e4ab tests,arch-arm: Add guards for ARM-specific test
The nightly tests, https://jenkins.gem5.org/job/nightly/219/, were
failing with the following error when running build/NULL/unittests.opt:

```
[ENUMDECL] m5.objects.ArmSystem, ArmExtension -> NULL/enums/ArmExtension.hh
  build_tools/enum_hh.py(58): <module>
Aborted (core dumped)
scons: *** [build/NULL/enums/ArmExtension.hh] Error 134
```

The reason for this is the 'aapcs64.test' now transitively includes the
'ArmExtension' enum via this commit:
https://gem5-review.googlesource.com/c/public/gem5/+/59471.

As this test now only works with the ARM ISA, a guard has been included.
As noted in the comment, GTest does not have the 'tags' parameter so the
'TARGET_ISA' environment variable was used. This will need updated when
the multi-isa code is incorporated.

c498d8bced cpu: Specialize CPUs for an ISA at the leaves, not BaseCPU.
The BaseCPU type had been specializing itself based on the value of
TARGET_ISA, which is not compatible with building more than one ISA at a
time.

This change refactors the CPU models so that the BaseCPU is more
general, and the ISA specific components are added to the CPU when the
CPU types are fully specialized. For instance, The AtomicSimpleCPU has a
version called X86AtomicSimpleCPU which installs the X86 specific
aspects of the CPU.

This specialization is done in three ways.

1. The mmu parameter is assigned an instance of the architecture
specific MMU type. This provides a reasonable default, but also avoids
having having to use the ISA specific type when the parameter is
created.

2. The ISA specific types are made available as class attributes, and
the utility functions (including __init__!) in the BaseCPU class can
refer to them to get the types they need to set up the CPU at run time.

Because SimObjects have strange, unhelpful semantics as far as assigning
to their attributes, these types need to be set up in a non-SimObject
class, which is then brought in as a base of the actual SimObject type.
Because the metaclass of this other type is just "type", things work
like you would expect. The SimObject doesn't do any special processing
of base classes if they aren't also SimObjects, so these attributes
survive and are accessible using normal lookup in the BaseCPU class.

3. There are some methods like addCheckerCPU and properties like
needsTSO which have ISA specific values or behaviors. These are set in
the ISA specific subclass, where they are inherently specific to an ISA
and don't need to check TARGET_ISA.

Also, the DummyChecker which was set up for the BaseSimpleCPU which
doesn't actually do anything in either C++ or python was not carried
forward. The CPU type still exists, but it isn't installed in the
simple CPUs.

To provide backward compatibility, each ISA implements a .py file which
matches the original .py for a CPU, and the original is renamed with a
Base prefix. The ISA specific version creates an alias with the old CPU
name which maps to the ISA specific type. This way, old scripts which
refer to, for example, AtomicSimpleCPU, will get the X86AtomicSimpleCPU
if the x86 version was compiled in, the ArmAtomicSimpleCPU on arm, etc.

Unfortunately, because of how tags on PySource and by extension SimObjects
are implemented right now, if you set the tags on two SimObjects or
PySources which have the same module path, the later will overwrite the
former whether or not they both would be included. There are some
changes in review which would revamp this and make it work like you
would expect, without this central bookkeeping which has the conflict.
Since I can't use that here, I fell back to checking TARGET_ISA to
decide whether to tell SCons about those files at all.

In the long term, this mechanism should be revamped so that these
compatibility types are only available if there is exactly one ISA
compiled into gem5. After the configs have been updated and no longer
assume they can use AtomicSimpleCPU in all cases, then these types can
be deleted.

Also, because ISAs can now either provide subclasses for a CPU or not,
the CPU_MODELS variable has been removed, meaning the non-ISA
specialized versions of those CPU models will always be included in
gem5, except when building the NULL ISA.

In the future, a more granular config mechanism will hopefully be
implemented for *all* of gem5 and not just the CPUs, and these can be
conditional again in case you only need certain models, and want to
reduce build time or binary size by excluding the others.

038bf7075a scons: Use unions to prevent debug flag destruction.
When an object is a field in a union, it's the programmer's
resposibility to destroy it from the union's destructor. We can simply
neglect to do that and avoid having to use new to create the flags.

Also, we can define the flags as inline variables (a c++17 feature), and
then create a constexpr references to them. This lets us refer to debug
flags in constexpr objects, although we can't interact with them at, for
instance, construciton time or we'd lose our own constexpr-ness since
the actual object is not constexpr.

In c++20 we would hypothetically be able to use constexpr with new and
delete, but there may be additional restrictions that would make this
particular use impossible. Also this avoids leaking memory, which, even
though it's intentional, may confuse tools like valgrind.

Also, we need to ensure that all headers are included in some source
file so that they exist in the final executable, so that they show up in
the help, can be enabled/disabled, etc.

a6721c7a73 arch, cpu: Consolidate most of the StackTrace classes into a base class.
These classes are all basically empty now that Alpha has been deleted,
except in cases where the arch versions had copied versions of the Alpha
code.

This change pulls all the generic logic out of the arch versions, making
the arch versions much simpler and making it clearer what the core
functionality of the class is, and what parts are architecture specific
details.

In the future, the way the StackTrace class is instantiated should be
delegated to the Workload class so that ISA agnostic code doesn't need
to know about a particular ISA's StackTrace class, and so that
StackTrace logic can, at least theoretically, be specialized for a
particular workload. The way a stack trace is collected could vary from
OS to OS, for example.

f8926cd56f arm: Add a unit test for some aspects of the aapcs64 ABI.
This test covers the templates which attempt to classify types, but not the
actual gathering of arguments of distribution of return values. As before, we
can't really use standard C++ to accurately test for HFAs and HVAs, so we stick
with approximating them by detecting arrays of the right types.

For example, I think technically we should also accept a struct with only 4
float members, but c++ templates aren't able to match against types in that way
as far as I know.

73fdc2eb57 config, arch, cpu, kern, sim: Extract kernel information from System.
Information about what kernel to load and how to load it was built
into the System object and its subclasses. That overloaded the System
object and made it responsible for too many things, and also was
somewhat awkward when working with SE mode which doesn't have a kernel.

This change extracts the kernel and information related to it from the
System object and puts into into a OsKernel or Workload object.
Currently the idea of a "Workload" to run and a kernel are a bit
muddled, an unfortunate carry-over from the original code. It's also an
implication of trying not to make too sweeping of a change, and to
minimize the number of times configs need to change, ie avoiding
creating a "kernel" parameter which would shortly thereafter be
renamed to "workload".

In future changes, the ideas of a kernel and a workload will be
disentangled, and workloads will be expanded to include emulated
operating systems which shephard and contain Process-es for syscall
emulation.

This change was originally split into pieces to make reviewing it
easier. Those reviews are here:

184fefbb3b arm: Raise an alignment fault if a PC has illegal alignment
We currently don't handle unaligned PCs correctly. There is one check
for unaligned PCs in the TLB when running in aarch64 mode, but this
check does not cover cases where the CPU does not do a TLB lookup when
decoding an instruction (e.g., a branch stays within the same cache
line). Additionally, the Decoder class sometimes throws an assertion
for unaligned PCs which breaks speculation.

This changeset introduces a decoder fault bit field in the ExtMachInst
structure. This field can be used to signal a decoder failure. If set,
the decoder generates an internal gem5fault instruction instead of a
normal instruction. This instruction in turns either panics (fault
type PANIC), returns an PCAlignmentFault (fault type UNALIGNED,
aarch64) or PrefetchAbort (fault type UNALIGNED, aarch32).

The patch causes minor changes to the realview64 regressions, and a
stats bump will follow.

3697990c27 arm: Add a model of an ARM PMUv3
This class implements a subset of the ARM PMU v3 specification as
described in the ARMv8 reference manual. It supports most of the
features of the PMU, however the following features are known to be
missing:

 * Event filtering (e.g., from different privilege levels).
 * Access controls (the PMU currently ignores the execution level).
 * The chain counter (event no. 0x1E) is unimplemented.

The PMU itself does not implement any events, it merely provides an
interface for the configuration scripts to hook up probes that drive
events. Configuration scripts should call addEventProbe() to configure
custom events or high-level methods to configure architected
events. The Python implementation of addEventProbe() automatically
delays event type registration until after instantiation.

In order to support CPU switching and some combined counters (e.g.,
memory references synthesized from loads and stores), the PMU allows
multiple probes per event type. When creating a system that switches
between CPU models that share the same PMU, PMU events for all of the
CPU models can be registered with the PMU.

Kudos to Matt Horsnell for the initial gem5 implementation of the PMU.

fe27f937aa arch: teach ISA parser how to split code across files
This patch encompasses several interrelated and interdependent changes
to the ISA generation step. The end goal is to reduce the size of the
generated compilation units for instruction execution and decoding so
that batch compilation can proceed with all CPUs active without
exhausting physical memory.

The ISA parser (src/arch/isa_parser.py) has been improved so that it can
accept 'split [output_type];' directives at the top level of the grammar
and 'split(output_type)' python calls within 'exec {{ ... }}' blocks.
This has the effect of "splitting" the files into smaller compilation
units. I use air-quotes around "splitting" because the files themselves
are not split, but preprocessing directives are inserted to have the same
effect.

Architecturally, the ISA parser has had some changes in how it works.
In general, it emits code sooner. It doesn't generate per-CPU files,
and instead defers to the C preprocessor to create the duplicate copies
for each CPU type. Likewise there are more files emitted and the C
preprocessor does more substitution that used to be done by the ISA parser.

Finally, the build system (SCons) needs to be able to cope with a
dynamic list of source files coming out of the ISA parser. The changes
to the SCons{cript, truct} files support this. In broad strokes, the
targets requested on the command line are hidden from SCons until all
the build dependencies are determined, otherwise it would try, realize
it can't reach the goal, and terminate in failure. Since build steps
(i.e. running the ISA parser) must be taken to determine the file list,
several new build stages have been inserted at the very start of the
build. First, the build dependencies from the ISA parser will be emitted
to arch/$ISA/generated/inc.d, which is then read by a new SCons builder
to finalize the dependencies. (Once inc.d exists, the ISA parser will not
need to be run to complete this step.) Once the dependencies are known,
the 'Environments' are made by the makeEnv() function. This function used
to be called before the build began but now happens during the build.
It is easy to see that this step is quite slow; this is a known issue
and it's important to realize that it was already slow, but there was
no obvious cause to attribute it to since nothing was displayed to the
terminal. Since new steps that used to be performed serially are now in a
potentially-parallel build phase, the pathname handling in the SCons scripts
has been tightened up to deal with chdir() race conditions. In general,
pathnames are computed earlier and more likely to be stored, passed around,
and processed as absolute paths rather than relative paths. In the end,
some of these issues had to be fixed by inserting serializing dependencies
in the build.

Minor note:
For the null ISA, we just provide a dummy inc.d so SCons is never
compelled to try to generate it. While it seems slightly wrong to have
anything in src/arch/*/generated (i.e. a non-generated 'generated' file),
it's by far the simplest solution.

3db3f83a5e arch: Make the ISA class inherit from SimObject
The ISA class on stores the contents of ID registers on many
architectures. In order to make reset values of such registers
configurable, we make the class inherit from SimObject, which allows
us to use the normal generated parameter headers.

This patch introduces a Python helper method, BaseCPU.createThreads(),
which creates a set of ISAs for each of the threads in an SMT
system. Although it is currently only needed when creating
multi-threaded CPUs, it should always be called before instantiating
the system as this is an obvious place to configure ID registers
identifying a thread/CPU.
