This will allow us to put some common "scripts" in the stdlib instead of

62d34ef374 misc: 'sim{out/err}' -> 'sim{out/err}.txt' (#250)
By default, the `--stderr-file` and `--stdout-file` arguments were
directing the simulator to output files named "simerr" and "simout"
respectively if an output redirect was requested.

A small annoyance is these files lack an extension meaning programs
refuse to open them, or don't do so withou additional effort. On many
systems they are assumed to scripts.

This patch adds the `.txt` extension to both, thus clearly indicating to
other programs these are text files and can be opened and read as such.

39f0bcd9af python: Mimic Python 3's -P flag in gem5
Python 3's `-P` flag, when set, means `sys.path` is not prepended with
potentially unsafe paths:
https://docs.python.org/3/using/cmdline.html#cmdoption-P

This patch allows gem5 to mimic this. This is necesssary when using
`mypy.stubgen` as it expects the Python Interpreter to have the `-P`
flag.

fda4137780 stdlib: Refactor multi-isa stdlib incorporation
The previous version of this requires the user to set the `main-isa` at
runtime, as inplemented via
https://gem5-review.googlesource.com/c/public/gem5/+/55423. In order to
keep this work in-sync with how the multi-protocol approach will work
(see here: https://gem5-review.googlesource.com/c/public/gem5/+/59193),
it's been decided this should be set at compile time. With this we are
keeping the `TARGET_ISA` parameter. If this is set, this is the de
facto "main-isa". The `main-isa` parameter has been removed from the
gem5 command-line.

If the `TARGET_ISA` parameter is not set, but only one ISA is compiled,
then this single ISA is assumed to be the `main-isa` for simulation. If
neither `TARGET_ISA` is set or the binary is compiled to a single ISA,
an exception is thrown when `get_runtime_isa` is called.

At the time of writing this change is moot as the multi-isa work has
yet to be merged into the gem5 develop branch. It exists here:
https://gem5.googlesource.com/public/gem5/+/refs/heads/multi-isa and
will need refactored to work with this patch.

The multi-isa tests have been updated. As we no longer pass the
`main-isa` as a run-time parameter, we remove many tests which validated
this use-case.

79a93f3429 stdlib: Incorporating multi-isa work to the stdlib
The main restriction with this design is it results in one ISA target
per board. The ISA is declared per core. To make the design simpler it's
assumed a Processor (a collection of cores) are all of the same ISA. As
each board has one processor, this also means a board is typically tied
to one ISA per simulation.

In order to remain backwards compatible and maintain the standard
library APIs, this patch adds a `--main-isa` parameter which will
determine what `gem5.runtime.get_runtime_isa` returns in cases where
mutliple ISAs are compiled in. When setting the ISA in a simulation (via
the Processor or Cores), the user may, as before, choose not to and, in
this case, the `gem5.runtime.get_runtime_isa` function is used.

The `gem5.runtime.get_runtime_isa` function is an intermediate step
which should be removed in future versions of gem5 (users should specify
precisely what ISA they want via configuration scripts). For this reason
it throws a warning when used and should not be heavily relied upon. It
is deprecated.

10b8bc95d3 python: Remove the m5.config and options.py mechanism.
It appears that there is a mechanism where you could either have a .m5
directory in your home directory, or set an M5_CONFIG environment
variable to some other directory, where you could put an options.py
file. That file would then be passed the options dict which gem5's main
had extracted from its args, which it could modify as it liked.

First, I suspect that this mechanism was basically unknown and was just
a dark corner of gem5 people had forgotten about. Getting rid of it
will help clear out old cruft.

Second, this sort of file reaching in and fiddling with gem5's internal
data structures is dangerous and fragile, and could in almost any case
be replaced with a wrapper script or shell alias.

0998e99131 python: Add a --silent-redirect option to gem5.
This complements the --redirect-stdout and --redirect-stderr options and
supresses the message about where those streams are being redirected
which print to the original stdout.

Usually this is very helpful since it lets you know where to look for
simulator output. If you're running gem5 in an automated environment
like our testing framework however, the file name is a random temp file
which will be deleted as soon as the test is finished running.

The --silent-redirect option can be used in these particular scenarios
to, for example, avoid lots and lots of useless lines in the test output
naming files that no longer exist.

"defines.py". When gem5 now runs it will output the version
currently being used to the CLI.

772ca27a97 misc: Added line wrapping functionality for Sim-Object desc
Descriptions were previously printed on one line, unless explicitly broken
when writing the description of the Sim-Object. In this commit, line
wrapping is enabled when printing these descriptions. Developers, when
writing the Sim-Object descriptions, may now over multiple lines with
triple double-quotes and still have the description output correctly when
viewing the Sim-Objects within the CLI.

E.g.: X86System previously had the following load_addr_mask component which
was output as:

load_addr_mask
            default: 18446744073709551615
desc: Address to mask loading binaries with, if 0, system \
auto-calculates the mask to be the most restrictive, otherwise it obeys a \
custom mask.

This was defined by the developer via:

load_addr_mask = Param.UInt64(0xffffffffffffffff,
"Address to mask loading binaries with, if 0, system "
"auto-calculates the mask to be the most restrictive, "
"otherwise it obeys a custom mask.")

This is now displayed as:

load_addr_mask
            default: 18446744073709551615
desc: Address to mask loading binaries with, if 0,
system auto-calculates the mask to be the most
restrictive, otherwise it obeys a custom mask.

same change to the site_tools and site_init.py files.

8b1ba9f99d python: Add a generalized mechanism to configure stats
Add a mechanism to configure the stat output format using a URL-like
syntax. This makes it possible to specify both an output format
(currently, only text is supported) and override default
parameters.

On the Python-side, this is implemented using a helper function
(m5.stats.addStatVisitor) that adds a visitor to the list of active
stat visitors. The helper function parses a URL-like stat
specification to determine the stat output type. Optional parameters
can be specified to change how stat visitors behave.

For example, to output stats in text format without stat descriptions:

    m5.stats.addStatVisitor("text://stats.txt?desc=False")

From the command line:

    gem5.opt --stats-file="text://stats.txt?desc=False"

Internally, the stat framework uses the _url_factory decorator
to wrap a Python function with the fn(path, **kwargs) signature in a
function that takes a parsed URL as its only argument. The path and
keyword arguments are automatically derived from the URL in the
wrapper function.

New output formats can be registered in the m5.stats.factories
dictionary. This dictionary contains a mapping between format names
(URL schemes) and factory methods.

To retain backwards compatibility, the code automatically assumes that
the user wants text output if no format has been specified (i.e., when
specifying a plain path).

774350b750 misc: Add secondary dot output for DVFS domains
This patch adds a secondary dot output file which shows the DVFS domains. This
has been done separately for now to avoid cluttering the already existing
diagram. Due to the way that the clock domains are assigned to components in
gem5, this output must be generated after the C++ objects have been
instantiated. This further motivates the need to generate this file separately
to the current dot output, and not to replace it entirely.
