af534729c4 mem-garnet: Packet Tracing of garnet network
This is a patch to keep track of
a single packet in the garnet network.
This patch would help for finding a deadlock issue
during the extending the garnet network.

e6c0ba97db scons: Put all config variables in an env['CONF'] sub-dict.
This makes what are configuration and what are internal SCons variables
explicit and separate, and makes it unnecessary to call out what
variables to export to C++.

These variables will also be plumbed into and out of kconfiglib in later
changes.

974a47dfb9 misc: Adopt the gem5 namespace
Apply the gem5 namespace to the codebase.

Some anonymous namespaces could theoretically be removed,
but since this change's main goal was to keep conflicts
at a minimum, it was decided not to modify much the
general shape of the files.

A few missing comments of the form "// namespace X" that
occurred before the newly added "} // namespace gem5"
have been added for consistency.

std out should not be included in the gem5 namespace, so
they weren't.

ProtoMessage has not been included in the gem5 namespace,
since I'm not familiar with how proto works.

Regarding the SystemC files, although they belong to gem5,
they actually perform integration between gem5 and SystemC;
therefore, it deserved its own separate namespace.

Files that are automatically generated have been included
in the gem5 namespace.

The .isa files currently are limited to a single namespace.
This limitation should be later removed to make it easier
to accomodate a better API.

Regarding the files in util, gem5:: was prepended where
suitable. Notice that this patch was tested as much as
possible given that most of these were already not
previously compiling.

98ac080ec4 base-stats,misc: Rename Stats namespace as statistics
As part of recent decisions regarding namespace
naming conventions, all namespaces will be changed
to snake case.

::Stats became ::statistics.

"statistics" was chosen over "stats" to avoid generating
conflicts with the already existing variables (there are
way too many "stats" in the codebase), which would make
this patch even more disturbing for the users.

ef96d4cc5c mem-garnet: Change flitbuffer structure to deque
Flitbuffers act as FIFOs for internal links and output queues
in routers. This change replaces the use of vectors with deque
for performance improvements. The older implementation of using
a vector combined with a heap sort was both incorrect and
inefficient.

Incorrect because flit buffers should act strictly
as FIFO, sorting them based on time changes the order which affects
functionality in the case of DVFS enabled NoCs.

91d83cc8a1 misc: Standardize the way create() constructs SimObjects.
The create() method on Params structs usually instantiate SimObjects
using a constructor which takes the Params struct as a parameter
somehow. There has been a lot of needless variation in how that was
done, making it annoying to pass Params down to base classes. Some of
the different forms were:

const Params &
Params &
Params *
const Params *
Params const*

This change goes through and fixes up every constructor and every
create() method to use the const Params & form. We use a reference
because the Params struct should never be null. We use const because
neither the create method nor the consuming object should modify the
record of the parameters as they came in from the config. That would
make consuming them not idempotent, and make it impossible to tell what
the actual simulation configuration was since it would change from any
user visible form (config script, config.ini, dot pdf output).

b877efa6d4 misc: Update attribute syntax, and reorganize compiler.hh.
This change replaces the __attribute__ syntax with the now standard [[]]
syntax. It also reorganizes compiler.hh so that all special macros have
some explanatory text saying what they do, and each attribute which has a
standard version can use that if available and what version of c++ it's
standard in is put in a comment.

Also, the requirements as far as where you put [[]] style attributes are
a little more strict than the old school __attribute__ style. The use of
the attribute macros was updated to fit these new, more strict
requirements.

cd9e445813 ruby: message buffer, timer table: significant changes
This patch changes MessageBuffer and TimerTable, two structures used for
buffering messages by components in ruby. These structures would no longer
maintain pointers to clock objects. Functions in these structures have been
changed to take as input current time in Tick. Similarly, these structures
will not operate on Cycle valued latencies for different operations. The
corresponding functions would need to be provided with these latencies by
components invoking the relevant functions. These latencies should also be
in Ticks.

I felt the need for these changes while trying to speed up ruby. The ultimate
aim is to eliminate Consumer class and replace it with an EventManager object in
the MessageBuffer and TimerTable classes. This object would be used for
scheduling events. The event itself would contain information on the object and
function to be invoked.

In hindsight, it seems I should have done this while I was moving away from use
of a single global clock in the memory system. That change led to introduction
of clock objects that replaced the global clock object. It never crossed my
mind that having clock object pointers is not a good design. And now I really
don't like the fact that we have separate consumer, receiver and sender
pointers in message buffers.

b6b972da99 ruby: rename System.{hh,cc} to RubySystem.{hh,cc}
The eventual aim of this change is to pass RubySystem pointers through to
objects generated from the SLICC protocol code.

Because some of these objects need to dereference their RubySystem pointers,
they need access to the System.hh header file.

In src/mem/ruby/SConscript, the MakeInclude function creates single-line header
files in the build directory that do nothing except include the corresponding
header file from the source tree.

However, SLICC also generates a list of header files from its symbol table, and
writes it to mem/protocol/Types.hh in the build directory. This code assumes
that the header file name is the same as the class name.

The end result of this is the many of the generated slicc files try to include
RubySystem.hh, when the file they really need is System.hh. The path of least
resistence is just to rename System.hh to RubySystem.hh.

bf8ae288fa ruby: network: drop member m_in_use
This member indicates whether or not a particular virtual network is in use.
Instead of having a default big value for the number of virtual networks and
then checking whether a virtual network is in use, the next patch removes the
default value and the protocol configuration file would now specify the
number of virtual networks it requires.

Additionally, the patch also refactors some of the code used for computing the
virtual channel next in the round robin order.

0d00cbc97b ruby: change router pipeline stages to 2
This patch changes the router pipeline stages from 4 to 2. The
canonical 4-stage router is conservative while a lower-latency router
with look ahead routing and speculative allocation is well acknowledged.

bfe7ee96ad ruby: replace global g_abs_controls with per-RubySystem var
This is another step in the process of removing global variables
from Ruby to enable multiple RubySystem instances in a single simulation.

The list of abstract controllers is per-RubySystem and should be
represented that way, rather than as a global.

Since this is the last remaining Ruby global variable, the
src/mem/ruby/Common/Global.* files are also removed.
