The SimObject will have already been added to the other object's list of children, and if it's given a new parent, it will be added as a child to the new parent as well. The object will then be the child of two other SimObjects which will cause a delightful variety of hard to debug problems. Another slightly better way to handle this situation would be to both move to the new parent and also remove the SimObject from the original parent's list of children. Unfortunately there isn't a simple way to figure out what the parent called the child, and so we would have to look through its children one by one until we found the right one. To build gem5, you will need the following software: g++ or clang, Python (gem5 links in the Python interpreter), SCons, SWIG, zlib, m4, and lastly protobuf if you want trace capture and playback support. Please see http://www.gem5.org/documentation/general_docs/building for more details concerning the minimum versions of the aforementioned tools. Once you have all dependencies resolved, type 'scons build/<ARCH>/gem5.opt' where ARCH is one of ARM, NULL, MIPS, POWER, SPARC, or X86. This will build an optimized version of the gem5 binary (gem5.opt) for the the specified architecture. See http://www.gem5.org/documentation/general_docs/building for more details and options.
