e7ae5290f5 base: Fix VNC server initialization
In a previous commit, the initialization of dataFd to -1 is removed.
Add it back so VNC server can properly accept connection.

67fb75d659 base,cpu,dev,sim: Pull common logic into ListenSocket::listen().
Create a version of listen() which handles common logic internally,
including scanning for an available port number, and notifying what
port was chosen.

The port is managed internal to ListenSocket, so that the logic
interacting with it doesn't need to manually manage a port number, and
hence a port number does not need to exist for non AF_INET sockets.

974a47dfb9 misc: Adopt the gem5 namespace
Apply the gem5 namespace to the codebase.

Some anonymous namespaces could theoretically be removed,
but since this change's main goal was to keep conflicts
at a minimum, it was decided not to modify much the
general shape of the files.

A few missing comments of the form "// namespace X" that
occurred before the newly added "} // namespace gem5"
have been added for consistency.

std out should not be included in the gem5 namespace, so
they weren't.

ProtoMessage has not been included in the gem5 namespace,
since I'm not familiar with how proto works.

Regarding the SystemC files, although they belong to gem5,
they actually perform integration between gem5 and SystemC;
therefore, it deserved its own separate namespace.

Files that are automatically generated have been included
in the gem5 namespace.

The .isa files currently are limited to a single namespace.
This limitation should be later removed to make it easier
to accomodate a better API.

Regarding the files in util, gem5:: was prepended where
suitable. Notice that this patch was tested as much as
possible given that most of these were already not
previously compiling.

91d83cc8a1 misc: Standardize the way create() constructs SimObjects.
The create() method on Params structs usually instantiate SimObjects
using a constructor which takes the Params struct as a parameter
somehow. There has been a lot of needless variation in how that was
done, making it annoying to pass Params down to base classes. Some of
the different forms were:

const Params &
Params &
Params *
const Params *
Params const*

This change goes through and fixes up every constructor and every
create() method to use the const Params & form. We use a reference
because the Params struct should never be null. We use const because
neither the create method nor the consuming object should modify the
record of the parameters as they came in from the config. That would
make consuming them not idempotent, and make it impossible to tell what
the actual simulation configuration was since it would change from any
user visible form (config script, config.ini, dot pdf output).

b877efa6d4 misc: Update attribute syntax, and reorganize compiler.hh.
This change replaces the __attribute__ syntax with the now standard [[]]
syntax. It also reorganizes compiler.hh so that all special macros have
some explanatory text saying what they do, and each attribute which has a
standard version can use that if available and what version of c++ it's
standard in is put in a comment.

Also, the requirements as far as where you put [[]] style attributes are
a little more strict than the old school __attribute__ style. The use of
the attribute macros was updated to fit these new, more strict
requirements.

a928a438b8 style: [patch 3/22] reduce include dependencies in some headers
Used cppclean to help identify useless includes and removed them. This
involved erroneously included headers, but also cases where forward
declarations could have been used rather than a full include.

5383e1ada4 base: Add support for changing output directories
This changeset adds support for changing the simulator output
directory. This can be useful when the simulation goes through several
stages (e.g., a warming phase, a simulation phase, and a verification
phase) since it allows the output from each stage to be located in a
different directory. Relocation is done by calling core.setOutputDir()
from Python or simout.setOutputDirectory() from C++.

This change affects several parts of the design of the gem5's output
subsystem. First, files returned by an OutputDirectory instance (e.g.,
simout) are of the type OutputStream instead of a std::ostream. This
allows us to do some more book keeping and control re-opening of files
when the output directory is changed. Second, new subdirectories are
OutputDirectory instances, which should be used to create files in
that sub-directory.

(and similar) abstractions, as these are no longer needed with gcc 4.7

db5c9a5f90 base: Redesign internal frame buffer handling
Currently, frame buffer handling in gem5 is quite ad hoc. In practice,
we pass around naked pointers to raw pixel data and expect consumers
to convert frame buffers using the (broken) VideoConverter.

This changeset completely redesigns the way we handle frame buffers
internally. In summary, it fixes several color conversion bugs, adds
support for more color formats (e.g., big endian), and makes the code
base easier to follow.

In the new world, gem5 always represents pixel data using the Pixel
struct when pixels need to be passed between different classes (e.g.,
a display controller and the VNC server). Producers of entire frames
(e.g., display controllers) should use the FrameBuffer class to
represent a frame.

Frame producers are expected to create one instance of the FrameBuffer
class in their constructors and register it with its consumers
once. Consumers are expected to check the dimensions of the frame
buffer when they consume it.

Conversion between the external representation and the internal
representation is supported for all common "true color" RGB formats of
up to 32-bit color depth. The external pixel representation is
expected to be between 1 and 4 bytes in either big endian or little
endian. Color channels are assumed to be contiguous ranges of bits
within each pixel word. The external pixel value is scaled to an 8-bit
internal representation using a floating multiplication to map it to
the entire 8-bit range.

221f4f232a dev: Protect PollEvent processing when running in parallel mode
The calling thread is undefined when the PollQueue services events.
This implies that PollEvents need to handle the case where they are
processed from a different thread than the thread that created the
event. This changeset adds temporary event queue migrations to the VNC
server, the ethernet tap device, and the terminal to protect them from
inter-thread calls.

helps when there are eventqs that do not make use of curTick for scheduling
events.

c0ab52799c sim: Include object header files in SWIG interfaces
When casting objects in the generated SWIG interfaces, SWIG uses
classical C-style casts ( (Foo *)bar; ). In some cases, this can
degenerate into the equivalent of a reinterpret_cast (mainly if only a
forward declaration of the type is available). This usually works for
most compilers, but it is known to break if multiple inheritance is
used anywhere in the object hierarchy.

This patch introduces the cxx_header attribute to Python SimObject
definitions, which should be used to specify a header to include in
the SWIG interface. The header should include the declaration of the
wrapped object. We currently don't enforce header the use of the
header attribute, but a warning will be generated for objects that do
not use it.

72538294fb gcc: Clean-up of non-C++0x compliant code, first steps
This patch cleans up a number of minor issues aiming to get closer to
compliance with the C++0x standard as interpreted by gcc and clang
(compile with std=c++0x and -pedantic-errors). In particular, the
patch cleans up enums where the last item was succeded by a comma,
namespaces closed by a curcly brace followed by a semi-colon, and the
use of the GNU-extension typeof (replaced by templated functions). It
does not address variable-length arrays, zero-size arrays, anonymous
structs, range expressions in switch statements, and the use of long
long. The generated CPU code also has a large number of issues that
remain to be fixed, mainly related to overflows in implicit constant
conversion (due to shifts).
