56e53cafe0 base, sim, mem, arch: Remove the dummy CPU in NULL
The NULL ISA target has a dummy BaseCPU class that doesn't seem to be
needed anymore. Remove this class and the some unnecessary includes.

937c4b4003 arch: Don't add contents to the TheISA namespace in arch/generic.
Instead, add what you want other ISAs to be able to use to a generic,
fixed namespace, and then let those other ISAs bring those symbols in
with "using" if they want them.

4ae8d1c0ed arch,sim: Merge initCPU into the ISA System classes.
Those classes are already ISA specific, so we can just move initCPU's
contents there and take it out of utility.hh, utility.cc, and the base
System's initState.

6a7a5b3005 arch,sim: Merge initCPU and startupCPU.
These two functions were called in exactly one place one right after
the other, and served similar purposes.

This change merges them together, and cleans them up slightly. It also
removes checks for FullSystem, since those functions are only called
in full system to begin with.

dc328d00eb sim,cpu: Move the call to initCPU into System.
The call to initCPU was moved into initState in the base CPU class
since it should only really be called when starting a simulation
fresh. Otherwise checkpointed state will be loaded over the state of
the CPU anyway, so there's no reason to set up anything else.

Unfortunately that made it possible for the System level initialization
and the CPU initialization to happen out of order, effectively letting
initCPU clobber the state the System might have set up to prepare for
executing a kernel for instance.

To work around that issue, the call was moved to init which would
necessarily happen before initState, restoring the original ordering.

This change moves the change *back* into initState, but of the System
class instead of the CPU class. This makes it possible to guarantee
that OS initialization happens after initCPU since that's also done
by System subclasses, and they control when they call initCPU of the
base class.

This also slightly simmplifies when initCPU is called since we
shouldn't need to check whether a context is switched out or not. If
it's registered with the System object, then it should be in a
currently swapped in CPU.

This also puts the initCPU and startupCPU calls right next to each
other. A future change will take advantage of that and merge the
calls together.

Also, because there are already ISA specific subclasses of System
which already have specialized versions of initState, we should be
able to move the code in initCPU and startupCPU directly into those
subclasses. That will give those subclasses more flexibilty if, for
instance, they want all CPUs to start running in the BIOS like they
would on a real system, or if they want only the BSP to be active
as if the BIOS had already paused the APs before passing control to
a bootloader or OS.

This will also remove another two TheISA:: style functions, reducing
the number of global dependencies on a single ISA.

a119a96324 cpu, arch: Replace the CCReg type with RegVal.
Most architectures weren't using the CCReg type, and in x86 and arm
it was already a uint64_t.

5edfb67041 arch: cpu: Rename *FloatRegBits* to *FloatReg*.
Now that there's no plain FloatReg, there's no reason to distinguish
FloatRegBits with a special suffix since it's the only way to read or
write FP registers.

25474167e5 arch,cpu: Add vector predicate registers
Latest-gen. vector/SIMD extensions, including the Arm Scalable Vector
Extension (SVE), introduce the notion of a predicate register file.
This changeset adds this feature across architectures and CPU models.

14b0481f7f null: Claim to use 64 bit floating point registers.
The NULL ISA doesn't actually have registers, so this setting doesn't
matter. By making it 64 bits the ISA is more compatible with the other
ISAs.

9d0fc9c29b null: Stop specifying an endianness in isa_traits.hh.
The NULL ISA doesn't really have an endianness. Now that the packet
accessors which consumed that endianness are gone, we can get rid of
that setting as well.

b8efd0e854 scons: Stop generating inc.d in the isa parser.
Generating dependency/build product information in the isa parser breaks scons
idea of how a build is supposed to work. Arm twisting it into working forced
a lot of false dependencies which slowed down the build.

b10a0092ae mem: Signal the local monitor when clearing the global monitor
ARM systems require the coordination of the global and local
monitors. When the system is run without caches the global monitor is
implemented in the abstract memory object. This change adds a callback
from the abstract memory that notifies the local monitor when the
global monitor is cleared.

Additionally, for ARM systems the local monitor signals the event
register and wakes the thread context up. Subsequent wait-for-event
(WFE) instructions will be immediately signaled.

00da089029 cpu: Added interface for vector reg file
This patch adds some more functionality to the cpu model and the arch to
interface with the vector register file.

This change consists mainly of augmenting ThreadContexts and ExecContexts
with calls to get/set full vectors, underlying microarchitectural elements
or lanes. Those are meant to interface with the vector register file. All
classes that implement this interface also get an appropriate implementation.

This requires implementing the vector register file for the different
models using the VecRegContainer class.

This change set also updates the Result abstraction to contemplate the
possibility of having a vector as result.

The changes also affect how the remote_gdb connection works.

There are some (nasty) side effects, such as the need to define dummy
numPhysVecRegs parameter values for architectures that do not implement
vector extensions.

Nathanael Premillieu's work with an increasing number of fixes and
improvements of mine.

5e8287d2e2 arch, cpu: Architectural Register structural indexing
Replace the unified register mapping with a structure associating
a class and an index. It is now much easier to know which class of
register the index is referring to. Also, when adding a new class
there is no need to modify existing ones.

608641e23c cpu: implements vector registers
This adds a vector register type.  The type is defined as a std::array of a
fixed number of uint64_ts.  The isa_parser.py has been modified to parse vector
register operands and generate the required code.  Different cpus have vector
register files now.

e1ac962939 arch: Cleanup unused ISA traits constants
This patch prunes unused values, and also unifies how the values are
defined (not using an enum for ALPHA), aligning the use of int vs Addr
etc.

The patch also removes the duplication of PageBytes/PageShift and
VMPageSize/LogVMPageSize. For all ISAs the two pairs had identical
values and the latter has been removed.

fe27f937aa arch: teach ISA parser how to split code across files
This patch encompasses several interrelated and interdependent changes
to the ISA generation step.  The end goal is to reduce the size of the
generated compilation units for instruction execution and decoding so
that batch compilation can proceed with all CPUs active without
exhausting physical memory.

The ISA parser (src/arch/isa_parser.py) has been improved so that it can
accept 'split [output_type];' directives at the top level of the grammar
and 'split(output_type)' python calls within 'exec {{ ... }}' blocks.
This has the effect of "splitting" the files into smaller compilation
units.  I use air-quotes around "splitting" because the files themselves
are not split, but preprocessing directives are inserted to have the same
effect.

Architecturally, the ISA parser has had some changes in how it works.
In general, it emits code sooner.  It doesn't generate per-CPU files,
and instead defers to the C preprocessor to create the duplicate copies
for each CPU type.  Likewise there are more files emitted and the C
preprocessor does more substitution that used to be done by the ISA parser.

Finally, the build system (SCons) needs to be able to cope with a
dynamic list of source files coming out of the ISA parser. The changes
to the SCons{cript,truct} files support this. In broad strokes, the
targets requested on the command line are hidden from SCons until all
the build dependencies are determined, otherwise it would try, realize
it can't reach the goal, and terminate in failure. Since build steps
(i.e. running the ISA parser) must be taken to determine the file list,
several new build stages have been inserted at the very start of the
build. First, the build dependencies from the ISA parser will be emitted
to arch/$ISA/generated/inc.d, which is then read by a new SCons builder
to finalize the dependencies. (Once inc.d exists, the ISA parser will not
need to be run to complete this step.) Once the dependencies are known,
the 'Environments' are made by the makeEnv() function. This function used
to be called before the build began but now happens during the build.
It is easy to see that this step is quite slow; this is a known issue
and it's important to realize that it was already slow, but there was
no obvious cause to attribute it to since nothing was displayed to the
terminal. Since new steps that used to be performed serially are now in a
potentially-parallel build phase, the pathname handling in the SCons scripts
has been tightened up to deal with chdir() race conditions. In general,
pathnames are computed earlier and more likely to be stored, passed around,
and processed as absolute paths rather than relative paths.  In the end,
some of these issues had to be fixed by inserting serializing dependencies
in the build.

Minor note:
For the null ISA, we just provide a dummy inc.d so SCons is never
compelled to try to generate it. While it seems slightly wrong to have
anything in src/arch/*/generated (i.e. a non-generated 'generated' file),
it's by far the simplest solution.

bf39a475fe mem: Wakeup sleeping CPUs without caches on LLSC
For systems without caches, the LLSC code does not get snoops for
wake-ups. We add the LLSC code in the abstract memory to do the job
for us.

19a5b68db7 arch: Resurrect the NOISA build target and rename it NULL
This patch makes it possible to once again build gem5 without any
ISA. The main purpose is to enable work around the interconnect and
memory system without having to build any CPU models or device models.

The regress script is updated to include the NULL ISA target. Currently
no regressions make use of it, but all the testers could (and perhaps
should) transition to it.
